An eating disorder is a condition that causes people to obsess about diet and weight. It can negatively impact your health, emotions, and daily living.
Anorexia is characterized by a distorted body image, with an unwarranted fear of being overweight. Symptoms include trying to maintain a below-normal weight through starvation or too much exercise.
People with Bulimia Nervosa binge eat, or frequently consume unusually large amounts of food in one sitting followed by purging (vomiting) in an attempt to avoid weight gain. They could also excessively exercise or fast.
Treatments include counseling, medications, and nutrition education. Medical treatment may be needed to restore normal weight.
